“TRANSITIONS”: a tension between order and chaos, calculation
and improvisation.
The “Transitions” series of paintings is the confluence of a tiling project, a branch of mathematics, and the parameters of painting, particularly color and texture.
Algorithms and rules are applied to sequences of very simple geometric shapes, resulting in configurations of unexpected complexity: a geometric beauty, sometimes intriguing in its resemblance to natural phenomena, such as crystals, plants, or insects, or to famous architectural tessellations like those found in the Alhambra.
The initial graphic stage is deterministic and rigorous, but subsequently, the painting takes over, acting with intuition and freedom.
